The cap distribution baffle is a variant of the calming baffle for separators handling heavy solid foulants or waxy fluids where standard perforated baffles would plug. Each opening in the baffle plate is fitted with a capped riser that protects the flow passage from direct solids accumulation. Liquid must pass under the cap edge to flow through, preventing solids from settling into the openings. This maintains flow uniformity across the vessel cross-section and the stable interface conditions required for liquid-liquid separation, even in services where a flat perforated baffle would foul between turnarounds.
