
Sandjet systems enable removal of accumulated sand from production separators and process vessels without shutdown or vessel entry. Each system comprises multiple headers fitted with fluidization nozzles and transportation nozzles installed along the vessel floor. Pressurized water fluidizes deposited sand and jets it toward sand cover and drain nozzles along the vessel shell bottom, while a sand cover prevents liquid level disturbance from drain suction. Header and nozzle positioning and angle are engineered per vessel to ensure full fluidization coverage while preventing shell erosion.

The system uses pressurized water injected through fluidization nozzles to suspend accumulated sand from the vessel floor and transportation nozzles to jet the fluidized sand toward drain nozzles at the vessel shell. A sand cover installed over the drain nozzles prevents the suction from disturbing the liquid-liquid interface above while sand exits through the drain. The process runs during normal vessel operation with the vessel online and at pressure. System design, including header layout, nozzle type, angle, and spacing, is specific to each vessel to ensure complete sand removal without channeling or bypassing.

Sand accumulation reduces effective vessel volume, increases residence time requirements, accelerates internal corrosion at the vessel floor, and can foul or bury internal components including coalescers and inlet devices. Left unaddressed, sand buildup requires periodic vessel entry for manual cleaning, creating safety risk and production downtime. A sandjet system eliminates the need for manual cleaning by continuously or periodically removing sand during normal operation, extending run lengths between turnarounds and reducing confined space entry frequency.

Sandjet systems can be retrofitted into existing vessels. Retrofit installation requires access through existing nozzles or new nozzles added to the vessel shell to route the pressurized water supply headers and drain connections.
