
Screen cylinders are wedge wire filtration components constructed by wrapping V-shaped profile wire around longitudinal support ribs, with all intersections resistance welded to create a plug-resistant screen surface. Available in diameters from under 1 inch to 30 inches with slot sizes from 0.004 to 0.750 inches. Configured for outside-to-inside or inside-to-outside flow and reversible for backwashing filtered solids without vessel entry.
End fittings including end plates, NPT threaded joints, and flanges match installation requirements. Applications include separators, scrubbers, ion exchangers, carbon towers, sand filtration systems, and resin trap installations. Slot size is determined by the particle size that must be retained and the open area required to pass the design flow rate without excessive pressure drop. Slot sizes are available from 0.004 inches for fine particle retention through 0.750 inches for coarse screening applications. The wire and rib profile dimensions are selected alongside slot size to meet both the open area requirement and the mechanical load the screen must withstand in service. In outside-to-inside configuration the process stream enters through the outer screen surface and filtered solids accumulate on the outside, which is the standard arrangement for most vessel internal strainer and basket applications. In inside-to-outside configuration the stream flows from the interior of the cylinder outward, with solids retained on the inner surface, which is used in applications where backwashing from the outside is required or where the cylinder is installed inline with flow passing through its core. The correct flow direction depends on the vessel geometry, nozzle orientation, and how solids are to be removed between cleaning cycles.
