Support grids are structural internals installed inside process columns and vessels to bear the weight of packing beds and catalyst loads while maintaining maximum open area for vapor and liquid flow. Grid geometry, bar spacing, load rating, and material specification are engineered to the specific column diameter, packing type, bed depth, and operating conditions of the application. A correctly specified and installed support grid prevents bed collapse, maintains even flow distribution at the base of the packing, and provides a stable foundation for the internals above.
TrayTec supplies and installs support grids to the dimensional and load requirements of your vessel. Contact our team with your column drawing and packing specification to discuss the right configuration.

Support grid selection is governed by the total bed weight including packing, liquid holdup, and any catalyst load above it, as well as the open area required to pass the design vapor and liquid rates without creating a pressure drop penalty at the base of the bed. The grid must span the full column diameter, transfer load to the vessel wall or beam supports, and maintain sufficient open area so it does not become the hydraulic bottleneck in the column. Contact TrayTec with your column diameter, packing type, bed depth, and design flow rates to confirm the appropriate grid specification.

Material selection is driven by the process fluid composition, operating temperature, pressure, and corrosion environment. Contact TrayTec with your process conditions and our team will confirm the appropriate material grade for your application.

Yes. TrayTec supplies support grids as standalone replacement components for existing columns where the original grid has corroded, collapsed, or no longer meets the load requirements of a modified packing bed. Provide your existing column drawing and current grid dimensions and our team will confirm supply and installation options.
