
Vane mist eliminators separate entrained liquid droplets from gas streams using closely spaced corrugated vanes that force the gas through directional changes. Droplets impact the vane surfaces, coalesce, and drain back into the liquid phase below. Unlike mesh mist eliminators, vane packs operate effectively at high gas velocities and high liquid loads without flooding, making them the preferred specification for high-throughput separators, offshore vessels, scrubbers, and column vapor outlets where mesh pads would re-entrain or blind.

Vane mist eliminators are specified when gas velocities exceed the flooding limit of mesh pads, typically above 3 to 5 m/s depending on gas density and liquid load. At these velocities mesh pads re-entrain captured liquid back into the gas stream, negating separation efficiency. Vane packs maintain separation performance at significantly higher velocities and are the standard choice for high-capacity separators, compressor suction scrubbers, and offshore vessels where space constraints drive higher nozzle velocities.

Horizontal vane packs are installed with gas flowing horizontally through the vane channels and are the most common configuration for vertical vessels and column vapor spaces. Vertical vane packs are used in horizontal separators where the gas flows upward through the vane bundle. Pocket vane configurations add drainage pockets to the vane geometry that capture and retain liquid at higher liquid loads, preventing re-entrainment in heavy liquid load service such as slug-prone production separators and inlet scrubbers.
